SCULPTOR STEPHANIE REVENNAUGH ENGLISH TOUR
In June, Montana-based sculptor STEPHANIE REVENNAUGH traveled to England to participate in the Horse exhibitition at SCULPTURE BY THE LAKES, a 26 acre gallery and park established by renowned sculptorSimon Gudgeon and his wife Monique.
The wetlands property juxtaposes the modern gardens created by Monique Gudgeon with the native landscape and Simon Gudgeon's sculptures. Simon himself curates the rotating exhibitions, and together with Monique, creates an experience that Revennaugh calls a "dream trip" of showing select works (such as her "Precarious," above), experimenting in other art mediums, and drawing inspiration from what the Telegraph calls this "gloriously wild" and gracious Dorset destination.
Revennaugh, who will be returning for the June 2017 Horse exhibit, was kind enough to share a photo journal of her UK tour.
Monique Gudgeon, responsible for the stunning gardens on the property, treated the visiting artists, including Revennaugh and Montana painter Julie T. Chapman, to al fresco dinners at different locations around the property every evening.
The Sculpture by the Lakes resident canines (above), including this friendly Lurcher "Mr. Wolf," were equally gracious about sharing the art and environs with their guests.
Gudgeon encouraged the artists to experiment with other mediums, including a day of glassblowing.
They also paid a visit to the yard of British Olympic eventer Harry Meade, watching him dressage school one of his horses on the grass court surrounded by the Costwold countryside and the Badminton grounds.
The Horse exhibit coincided with the famed Royal Ascot racing meet, where Revennaugh met up with follow sculptor Edward Waites to tour the equine sculpture on the Ascot grounds.
The legendary dress code at the Royal Ascot meet does not favor an impromptu visit, but the wonderful owner Antonia at Timpany's boutique assisted Stephanie in putting together a last minute -yet perfect - look.
There are no words to describe the thrill of watching a race at Royal Ascot, where 300,000 people make the annual visit to the race meeting.
A equine sculptor cannot venture so close to Scotland without making a trip to see Andy Scott's iconic Kelpies in Falkirk, near Edinburgh. Revennaugh rode an exhilarating two-hour hack on a sturdy paint amidst the early summer lupine, followed by taking in the Kelpies.
Equine inspiration and reference is everywhere in the UK, including the historic Edinburgh Castle, set atop Castle Rock.
Thank you Stephanie Revennaugh for taking us along on this equestrian inspired journey.
