Wiggle Cycle Race cancelled
"Martin, the cycling organizer has accepted that an alternative route must be sourced for the 30 mile bike ride."
Says Tony Barnett
The proposed cycling event over common land in Surrey has been cancelled.
Today I had talks with Martin Barden event organizer to inform him that the common lands are Rural and as such are not subject to council bye-ways as the authority do not have Locus Stan-di to make grants of easement etc, the other issues here are that because the authority have no jurisdiction, there will be no public liability included in the grant.
The organizer? of the objectors is Michael Loates-Taylor, although a keen horse rider also supports access for all, and from our conversation to day holds the view that a proper association/organisation should be formed to represent public opinion to safe guard common lands and freedom of access from all points of view.
Martin, the cycling organizer has accepted that an alternative route must be sourced for the 30 mile bike ride.
May I ask all concerned in lawful access to common lands in the Surrey area to identify the area of the common land ie Rural, Urban or Borough before making complaints etc, as always horseytalk will assist.
